The LinkedIn Headline Formula Recruiters Search For

June 30, 2026 · 5 min read

LinkedIn weights your headline heavily in search. A headline that reads only 'Consultant at Company' matches almost nothing a recruiter would type.

Use the formula: Role | Specialism and impact | Credentials or tools. For example: 'Operations Consultant | Process Excellence & Cost Reduction | Lean Six Sigma Black Belt'.

Then align the rest of the profile. Your About section should open with the same positioning, and your skills list should contain the exact terms recruiters filter by.

Consistency matters more than cleverness. The profile, resume, and cover letter should all tell one story.
